Family Nature Adventures

Fun-filled family nature activities take place in the evening, as day turns to night, and nocturnal animals appear from the endless dunes, scrub and behind the ghaff trees. Families can explore the magical desert under the light of the moon at the Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi Desert. Join the Ritz Ranger guides and discover many interesting facts about the desert, flora, and fauna. Visitors can participate in the wildlife feeding programme and feed the Arabian oryx and the sand gazelles. The nature drive allows you to meander through the desert landscape and learn tracking skills from an experienced guide. You’ll spot tiny footprints in the sand that could belong to small rodents such as jirds, gerbils and jerboas that are seen only at night. Other animals like the elusive sand fox, bats, hares, Gordon’s wildcat and sand cat also reside in the park.

The windswept desert plains are incredible. The Ras Al Khaimah desert is spectacular and ranges from eerie moonscapes to captivating ever-moving dunes. Visitors will find a surprisingly impressive collection of diverse plants adapted to Ras Al Khaimah’s climate. The desert vegetation is mainly shrubs, trees and bushes. After rare winter rains, desert ephemerals, hyacinths, and thumbs turn into a mass sea of colourful blooms.

The Al Wadi Equestrian Adventure Centre has a range of other activities, including archery, cycling, star gazing, bird watching and nature drives within the protected parklands. Kids can become Ritz Rangers, explore the nature reserve, and learn survival skills.
