A regional Italian culinary adventure in the ancient pearling village of Al Jazeera Al Hamra.
Paolo & Kelly Picarazzi of award-winning cultural dining experience Antica Australis from Australia will be bringing their unique format of food and storytelling to the UAE as part of the 2023 Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival (RAKFAF).
Since opening in 2020, Antica Australis has built up an underground following amongst culinary and cultural aficionados and food lovers across Australia.
Antica [an-tee-ka] is renowned for serving a four-course set menu from locally sourced (and predominantly organic) produce to present traditional and ancient dishes from Paolo’s home region of Ciociaria in central Italy. This little-known and ‘hidden’ region of Italy pre-dates the ancient Romans.
Throughout the cultural dining experience, Australian-born Kelly explains the local provenance of all produce sourced, as well as the cultural provenance of each dish in a transcendent storytelling format unique to Antica.
Paolo will be taking inspiration from Ras Al Khaimah’s organic farms, local produce, and foraged natural flora to curate a special four-course Italian/Emirati menu for RAKFAF.
This includes an antipasti platter of artisanal Italian cheeses to commence the dining experience, followed by a pistachio risotto with poached chicken breast; with a 2000-year-old ancient Roman recipe for the main course combining the flavors of lamb and anchovies, then a medieval milk pudding with saffron-infused camel milk and locally foraged lavender; finishing with stovetop espresso and delicious traditional almond biscuits from Ciociaria.
Antica Australis is Latin for ‘the ancient South’ – we are all thrilled to be bringing the Antica experience to the ancient East.
Tickets are AED350 per person. Includes four courses and unlimited soft drinks*.
