Discover the creative spirit of Ras Al Khaimah at RAK Art Festival, taking place from 22 January to 14 February 2027 at Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village. Set within one of the emirate’s historic heritage sites, this homegrown cultural festival brings together contemporary creativity and ancient traditions, offering an immersive, multisensory experience for local and international visitors.
Centred on the theme “Lost in Translation,” the 2027 edition takes inspiration from Sofia Coppola’s iconic 2003 film to explore the complexities of communication, identity and human connection. Going beyond language, the theme reflects the emotions, cultural nuances and quiet moments of disconnection that arise when navigating unfamiliar places and experiences. Through art, the festival invites visitors to consider how people find meaning, belonging and connection, even when understanding feels incomplete.
Curated by Sharon Toval, the festival brings together more than 140 artworks by over 130 artists representing 54 nationalities. Exploring themes of migration, memory, belonging and the relationship between personal identity and public roles, the collection examines how meaning changes across cultures and contexts. It also considers the ways in which places and landscapes can bring people together or create a sense of isolation, encouraging visitors to reflect on their own experiences of connection and belonging.
More than an exhibition, Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival is a vibrant gathering that encourages dialogue between artists, authors, creatives and the wider community. Across a diverse programme of artistic expressions, the festival celebrates the power of creativity to bridge cultural differences, challenge perspectives and inspire new conversations.
Organised by the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research under the Ras Al Khaimah Art Program, this annual celebration offers a distinctive opportunity to experience the emirate’s evolving cultural landscape. Step into Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village and discover how art can transcend boundaries, connect perspectives and reveal meaning in the spaces between words.
